Time Zone Converter
How it works
The time zone converter tells you what time it will be in one place when it is a given time somewhere else. Choose a date and time, the time zone they belong to, and the time zone you want to convert to. The date and time start on your current date and time.
You can choose from 16 commonly used zones: UTC, New York, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Mexico City, São Paulo, London, Paris, Berlin, Dubai, Kolkata, Shanghai, Tokyo, Sydney and Auckland. The converter uses the time zone database built into your browser, so daylight saving time is applied automatically for the date you pick. That is why New York is 5 hours behind London for most of the year but can be 4 hours behind for a few weeks in spring and autumn, when the two switch clocks on different dates.
The result shows the converted time in 24-hour format along with the date, which can change when converting across midnight. Check the date line when scheduling calls between distant places such as Los Angeles and Tokyo.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert time between time zones?+
Pick the date and time, choose the zone it is in, and choose the zone you want. The converter shows the matching local time and date, including any daylight saving adjustment.
Does the converter handle daylight saving time?+
Yes. It uses your browser's time zone data, so the offset for each city is the one in effect on the date you choose.
What is UTC?+
UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the world's reference time. It doesn't change for daylight saving, and other time zones are described as offsets from it, such as UTC+9 for Tokyo.
Why did the date change in my result?+
When the time difference pushes the result past midnight, the converted time falls on the previous or next day. For example, 8:00 PM in New York is already the next morning in Tokyo.
