How it works

The GPA calculator works out your grade point average from a list of courses. For each course, enter the number of credits and choose a letter grade. You can name courses to keep track of them, add as many as you need, and remove ones you don't want counted.

Grades are converted using the common US 4.0 scale: A+ and A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, D- = 0.7 and F = 0.0. Each course's grade points are multiplied by its credits, and the GPA is the total grade points divided by the total credits. Courses with zero credits are left out.

The result shows your GPA to two decimal places, the total credits and the total grade points. Because the GPA is weighted by credits, a 4-credit course affects it more than a 1-credit course. Schools don't all use the same scale (some give A+ a 4.3, for example), so check your school's policy if your official GPA looks different.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my GPA?+

Multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add those together, and divide by your total credits. For example, an A (4.0) in a 3-credit course and a B (3.0) in a 4-credit course give (12 + 12) / 7 = 3.43.

What GPA is an A-, B+ or C?+

On the 4.0 scale used here, an A- is 3.7, a B+ is 3.3 and a C is 2.0. An A+ counts the same as an A, at 4.0.

How do I calculate cumulative GPA?+

Enter every course from all your terms with its credits and grade. The calculator weights each course by its credits, so the result is your cumulative GPA across everything you entered.

What is a good GPA?+

It depends on your goals, but a 3.0 (a B average) is often seen as solid, and 3.5 or higher is generally considered strong. Some scholarships and programs set their own minimums.
